Hello everyone I just recently shot a roll of delta 400 in 120 and a roll of Tmax400 in 120 both at box speed and just wondered wich developer was the most suitable for those films among the ones I have on hand I have some Fomadon R09 Ilford LC29 and I have been given by a friend a bottle of Tetenal ultrafin wich I have never tried. When I first started out with film photography I used to develop Kodak TMax 400 in the Rodinal developer.

I have tmax rs ddx d19 microdol and xtol and hc110 developers on hand.

Best developer for tmax 400. Most of the example images in this article were developed in Xtol. I had run speed and development test with same but have been reading that microphen has increased gain. With TMAX in third place.
Its sharp has wonderful contrast outstanding shadow detail and could possibly be the perfect film for any occasion. Like T-MAX Developer T-MAX RS Developer and Replenishler produces higher image quality enhanced shadow detail than current push-processing developers when you process film normally or push it one two or three stops. I regularly use D-76D-76H Xtol and TMAX developers with 400TMY.
This video is a demonstration of how to process the film we use for MMMM 2400. My usual Kodak TMax 400 developing method is to use Kodal Xtol developer or to use a soup of Xtol and Rodinal. Tmax 400 is the worlds sharpest and finest grained 400 speed BW film.
Xtol is hands down best for Tri-X and T-Max. D-76 is filled with sodium sulfite which etches away the edges of grains to make finer grains which are then further apart making the film appear grainier. I ask you to use TMax 400.
Kodak formulated Tmax Developer in the late 1980s for developing the now-discontinued Tmax p3200 film and for push-processing Tmax 400. D-76 is very outdated it under performs vs Xtol in every way. It also pushes film incredibly well.
Xtol is just a pain in the arse to mix and store. For 100TMX OTOH I like TMAX developer best of. That being said Tmax 400 will definitely try its best to get you out of a sticky situation.
T-MAX 400 400 using T-MAX Developer at 24c for 530s. I began shooting the film at box speed ISO 400 and developing it as recommended by Kodak. Do not use KODAK PROFESSIONAL T-MAX Developer to process sheet films.
Best developer for tmax 400 Kodak Tri-X 400 developed in Rodinal 150. Ilford Delta 3200 or Tmax 3200. Brought to market in its current formulation in 1990 Delta 400 is a medium-speed ISO 400 black-and-white T-grain film.
At this point I prefer the following procedures for. KODAK PROFESSIONAL T-MAX RS Developer and Replenisher except that it is a black-and-white film developer and replenisher. I think it looks best in D-76 perhaps a tiny edge over Xtol.
It is also a good general-purpose film developer that works well for most films not just Kodaks Tmax Films and is the developer I recommend to beginners who dont want to mess with powdered chemicals like D-76. See below for a few older images and some Rodinal TMax examples. It gives better image quality than any 100 speed film with.
Heres how I choose a film. Rotate the sheets 90 degrees as you interleave them. A staple of nearly every wedding portrait and fine art.
Hadeer Subscriber Ads Enabled. Tray ProcessingSheets Provide continuous agitation. Xtol is Kodaks recommended developer for its T-grain films.
I do not personally care for T-MAX 400 in HC-110. My developers of choice for sheet film use are D-76 and T-MAX RS Developer-Replenisher. Best developer for 400 TMAX Originally Posted by Lenny Eiger D-76 is no match for Xtol 11 or more or Pyro.

Prewetting sheet film may improve. T-MAX 100 works satisfactorily in HC-110 developer but the speed is not as high and it is grainier than other developers. Best Developer for New TMAX 400.
Im thinking on running development tests and switching to xtol or tmax rs for finer grain. Rodinal is nice for a very grainy high contrast look with lots of agitation. Does anyone have an opinion as to the best developer to consider.
All things similar to Kodaks T-Max 400. For street photography portraits and documentary work I mainly use 35mm 400 speed film s with Kodak Tmax 400 my favorite. Times and temperatures may change for other films.
Heres how I choose a film. They also perform well and will have slightly higher film speeds in the T-MAX developers.
